We are very excited to offer this exceptional variety Askola which is a relatively new female seaberry variety from Germany. It was selected for its extremely high content of Vitamin C (about 7 times more than lemons) and E, Askola fruit makes high quality juice and preserves. Ripening in late August t
his variety is prized for its incredible crops of large, bright orange, flavorful and vitamin-rich berries with highly disease and pest resistant silvery blue rosemary like foliage. Crops are so heavy that in late August the plant essentially turns orange. Needs a male pollinator to produce berries. 1 Male will pollinate up to 8 females. Very Popular in Eastern Europe, Russia and China, Seaberry is a new and very valuable plant for North American gardeners. Also known as Sea Buckthorn, Seaberry is prized for its showy ornamental value, tasty and healthy fruit, and the ability to grow in and actually improve poor soils! Has a pleasant acidic flavor which, when sweetened, makes delicious juice. Like Cranberry juice, Seaberry juice is usually diluted with up to 70% water. During the Cold War, East Germany used Seaberry as a healthful substitute for orange juice.
