ℹ Not Your Average Magnolia! The 'Ned's Northern Belle' Sweetbay Magnolia is a cold hardy (Zone 3) magnolia that produces tropical looking large white blossoms that open on the branches from May through July! From them flows a rich and vanilla-like perfume, which spreads across the garden for hundreds of feet, even drifting through open windows! Beautiful and glossy dark green foliage makes a luscious backdrop for these delicate fragrant blooms. Even the leaves of this Magnolia have a sweet bay like fragrance hence the name "sweetbay". Foliage is evergreen and holds well through winter in Zone 4 and up. Flowers are followed by unique bright red cone shaped fruits for a bit of late season interest! Not only fragrant and beautiful, 'Neds Northern Belle' Sweetbay Magnolia is also tough and versatile, being deer resistant and able to grow in full sun all the way to full shade.
