ℹBailey's Select Schubert Chokecherry features showy 3-6” long racemes of fragrant white flowers hanging below the branches in mid spring. It has attractive deep purple foliage which emerges green in spring and changes to purple in June. Flowers give way to clusters of globular, pea-sized berries that ripen to dark purple/black in August. The oval leaves are highly ornamental and turn an outstanding red in the fall. Primarily grown as an ornamental tree, but it's also valued for its edible qualities. The small round sour fruit is used in preserves, sauces, and baking. Self fertile.
