ℹ North American native. Unique clusters of pale yellowish green to red pinkish petals that attract hummingbirds. Medium sized black fruit and red fall foliage. Gooseberries generally have a unique, pungent tart-sweet flavor when eaten fresh (which some people love). They are excellent when made into jams, pies, smoothies, or other berry confections. The berries are an excellent source of Vitamin C. Profuse golden thorns on stems. Used on reclamation sites. Prefers moist soils and does well near waterways.
